Components and Function

There evaporator is made up of a few components:

In short, the expansion valve allows high pressure, liquid refrigerant to enter the low-pressure evaporator core, where it evaporates and returns to a gaseous state. Doing so requires heat, which it removes from the passing air before it flows into the cabin. This has the effect of cooling the air as it enters the cabin. The suction throttle valve is used to limit the amount of suction applied from the low-pressure side, limiting the extremity of the evaporation process. This is used to regulate the temperature in the evaporator, preventing it from icing up and freezing.
