Finally
the
true
replacement
for
the
Selin
MAF
Translator
is
here!
The
KLDA
Transmogrifier
is
a
direct
plug-and-play
solution
to
allow
you
to
easily
and
accurately
run
true
dual
intakes
(with
dual
MAFs)
on
the
300ZX!
Everything
you
need
to
know
about
dual
intakes
In
stock
form,
the
300ZX
routes
ALL
intake
air
through
a
single
MAF,
and
it
then
immediately
splits
into
two
channels
(driver
and
passenger
sides).
The
stock
MAF
can
meter
more
than
practically
any
other
Nissan
production
car
from
the
era,
and
is
electronically
limited
to
about
500whp
worth
of
air.
To
get
around
this
limit,
pioneers
like
Jim
Wolf
Technology
devised
early
dual
intake
systems,
which
split
the
intake
tract
into
two
completely
separate
channels,
with
a
MAF
on
one
side,
and
a
"dummy
MAF"
on
the
other.
Because
this
configuration
effectively
means
the
ECU
is
only
metering
half
of
the
incoming
air,
this
also
required
an
ECU
upgrade
which
included
doubling
the
MAF
multiplier
in
software
to
make
up
the
difference.
This
worked,
and
allowed
users
to
push
past
the
500whp
limit
without
the
need
for
an
expensive
standalone
ECU,
but
running
a
dummy
MAF
on
one
side
isn't
perfectly
accurate,
and
caused
low
speed
driveability
issues,
which
required
further
modifications
and
work-arounds
to
resolve.
Then,
around
2011,
the
Selin
Translator
hit
the
market.
Put
simply,
the
Selin
Translator
acted
as
a
"splitter,"
where
the
vehicle's
MAF
connector
would
plug
into
the
Selin
Translator,
which
would
then
connect
to
two
actual
MAF
sensors
side-by-side,
eliminating
the
need
for
a
dummy
MAF,
"low
speed
driveability"
modifications,
or
even
an
ECU
tune!
The
Selin
Translator
was
able
to
run
in
two
modes:
In
ADD
mode,
it
would
add
the
readings
from
both
MAFs
together,
then
send
a
single
value
back
to
the
ECU,
so
it
was
truly
plug-and-play
with
no
tuning
or
tweaks
necessary.
In
AVG
mode,
it
would
instead
average
the
values
from
the
two
MAFs,
and
send
that
to
the
ECU.
This
made
it
backwards-compatible
with
those
who
had
previously
performed
one
of
the
older
forms
of
dual
intakes,
while
also
being
more
accurate,
and
still
providing
a
pathway
to
get
past
the
500whp
limit
of
the
factory
MAF
circuit
for
those
who
needed
it.
Despite
earlier
beliefs
that
a
dual
MAF
was
only
beneficial
to
those
trying
to
get
over
the
500whp
limit,
Specialty
Z
found
that
on
a
TT
with
only
a
pop
charger,
catback,
and
a
chip
tune,
switching
to
a
dual
intake
using
the
Selin
translator
would
result
in
about
a
30
WHP
gain
at
the
top-end!
Unfortunately,
the
Selin
Translator
is
no
longer
in
production,
leaving
a
huge
gap
in
the
Z32
world.
Thankfully,
KLDA
and
SpecialtyZ
have
brought
a
full
featured
replacement
to
the
market,
with
all
of
the
same
functions
and
benefits
as
the
original!
ADD
vs
AVG
Mode
The
KLDA
Transmogrifier
can
operate
in
one
of
two
modes,
selected
by
a
switch
on
the
device
itself.
-
ADD:
Use
this
if
your
ECU
is
stock,
or
configured
for
a
traditional
"Single
POP"
or
"Single
MAF"
intake.
This
will
read
both
MAFs,
combine
their
value,
and
send
it
to
the
ECU.
As
far
as
the
ECU
is
concerned,
it's
still
a
single
intake,
but
bringing
in
more
air
than
before!
-
AVG:
This
mode
can
be
used
if
your
ECU
has
been
configured
for
a
"Dual
POP"
or
"Dual
MAF"
setup.
This
is
slightly
less
accurate
than
ADD
mode,
but
still
perfectly
safe
and
won't
cause
any
driveability
issues.
More
importantly,
it
effectively
halves
the
voltage
being
sent
to
the
ECU,
meaning
it
allows
for
you
to
get
past
the
500whp
limit,
or
just
upgrade
an
old
school
JWT
dummy
MAF
intake
with
true
dual
MAFs!
