ever
had
the
opportunity
to
track
your
new
Z,
you
know
the
oil
temperatures
get
way
too
high!
We
have
seen
temps
exceeding
270°F
while
full-out
on
the
track.
Nissan's
V6
engines
have
become
notorious
for
high
oil
temperatures
over
the
years,
usually
just
resulting
in
the
ECU
limiting
power,
but
this
can
cause
harmful
engine
damage
if
these
extreme
temperatures
are
sustained.
This
is
especially
true
for
the
VR30
since
it
uses
such
thin
oil
to
begin
with.
We
teamed
up
with
industry
leader
CSF
to
produce
a
cooler
that
not
only
is
thicker
than
stock,
but
also
has
a
larger
surface
area,
and
retains
the
factory
V-mounted
design.
The
kit
comes
complete
with
brackets,
hoses
and
a
custom
molded
air
duct
to
vent
the
hot
exhausted
air
down
and
out
under
the
car,
keeping
engine
bay
temps
low.

We
tested
both
the
stock
oil
cooler
and
the
CZP
oil
cooler
on
a
closed
track,
with
a
fresh
oil
change
done
prior
to
each
run
to
try
to
show
the
difference
in
how
oil
temperatures
are
handled
between
the
two
coolers.
The
stock
cooler
simply
cant
handle
high
RPMs
under
a
sustained
load
for
more
than
10
minutes
of
driving
without
getting
to
dangerously
high
temperatures,
while
the
CZP
cooler
settled
to
a
lower
maximum
temperature
sooner
and
holds
it
steady.
Why
does
oil
temp
matter?
The
Arrhenius
Rate
Rule
states
that
with
every
increase
of
10°C
in
a
lubricant's
base
temperature,
oil
life
is
halved.
This
means
the
higher
temps
your
oil
reaches,
the
less
effective
it
is
at
doing
its
job.
More
carbonaceous
deposits,
reduced
oil
films,
and
additives
breaking
down
rendering
even
high
end
oils
ineffective
at
reducing
engine
wear
after
exposed
to
high
temps.
The
result
is
simple
and
indisputable:
high
oil
temperature
leads
to
engine
wear
and
damage.
