Hi Alex, the optional resonators go in-line on the X-pipe. Resonators are basically segments of piping with a chamber surrounding it that dampens noise, and in practice they help reduce rasp and contribute to the exhaust tone sounding smoother and more refined. BBE's resonators are fairly small so the difference isn't as drastic, but they are still an option for those who want it.
